Advancing retail and supply chains with digital twins

Published Wednesday January 14, 2026

This year at NRF: Retail’s Big Show and Consumer Electronics Show (CES), conversations on the show floors focused on how digital technologies are reshaping retail and supply chain operations. Across both events, one theme stood out: organizations are looking for practical ways to connect data, strategy, and execution.

During NRF and CES, we shared how digital twins are being used to support smarter decision-making across retail and supply chain environments. By creating high-fidelity digital representations of facilities, processes, and systems, teams can explore scenarios, evaluate trade-offs, and plan changes with greater confidence before implementing them in the real world.

To take a closer look at how these capabilities come together, we created a short video with AllSides that highlights how high-fidelity 3D scans enable accurate digital twins for retail and supply chain applications.

Digital Twin applications across industries

Across retail, supply chain, and production environments, digital twins support a wide range of use cases:

  • Store layout and consumer research: Digital twins create virtual store environments where retailers can explore shelf layouts, evaluate shopper behavior, and test merchandising strategies to better understand how customers interact with products.
  • Supply chain and production simulation: By digitally replicating production systems, such as bottling lines, teams can analyze flow, uncover constraints, and evaluate performance under different operating conditions before implementing changes on the floor.
  • Warehouse and fulfillment center optimization: Digital twins help assess warehouse layouts, material movement, and picking strategies to improve efficiency, reduce travel time, and support automation and system upgrades with lower risk.
