First-time success with digital twins: Acquire▸Activate▸Optimize
Published Wednesday September 10, 2025A major automaker faced a challenge while preparing to update a robotics manufacturing cell: both the cell and the robot had been modified due to a recent product design change, but no updated design information was available. To reduce risk, the automaker wanted to virtually commission the robot prior to pilot testing. The solution? A digital twin created from our Acquire▸Activate▸Optimize process.
How does our process work?
- Acquire – In a single day, mobile scanning with SLAM technology captured a millimeter-accurate 3D point cloud, which was rapidly converted into a textured 3D polygonal model.
- Activate – The model was then quickly converted into connected CAD assets, enabling creation of a functional, programmable robotic simulation. This environment allowed engineers to validate end-effector motion, kinematics, and positional accuracy before deployment.
- Optimize – Then the virtual robot was integrated into NVIDIA Omniverse, creating a collaborative digital twin. Stakeholders could remotely access and share process data through a unified dashboard, enabling cross-functional decision-making.
As a result, we executed a complex robotic cell update on the first attempt, reducing our client’s cost, risk, and time while ensuring confidence in performance. Digital twins are reshaping the future of manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics—and our Acquire▸Activate▸Optimize process makes it simple.
